The Cottonbelt Trail in Waco is finally officially open. We had some trouble
actually locating the trail heads because there are no signs. We parked in the
TXDOT area off Old Lorena Road which is at mid-point. This is not currently an
official parking lot for the trail, but it should be.
We headed toward the “landfill” end and it curves under Old Lorena Road and ends at the landfill.
When we got to the trailhead we walked out to the road to figure out to get to this parking area.
We walked back to the car at old Lorena road and continued on to the
Harris Creek end of the trail. We walked out to the road to find a road sign to
get an idea of where we were.
We walked back to the trailhead and then we walked around the circular walking path
at that trail head before heading back to Old Lorena road.
When we finished our walk we drove down Church Road and came to Harris Creek. Turning
onto Harris Creek we came to the “Trailblazer” Trailhead.
We then attempted to drive to the landfill trailhead. We turned off Hwy 84 toward the
Lehigh Cement Plant and took an immediate right onto Hannah Hill Road. When we
got to the landfill there is a gravel road to the right. Go just a few feet and
turn left onto a paved entry to the trailhead parking lot.
